Dr. Rabi

Greetings. I prefer to be called “Rabi”. Thank you for visiting my site.

Soon after I qualified as a freshly minted doctor in 1997 from India, I left for the UK.

I worked in the UK all the way from a House Officer to Consultant in the NHS. Following my specialist training in Oxford, I qualified as a specialist consultant in both General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Nephrology from Oxford.

After working as a consultant in general medicine and nephrology in UK, I moved to sunny New Zealand in 2012. I have been working as a full-time kidney specialist (nephrologist) at Waikato Hospital.

My interest in fatigue-related conditions started when I was a trainee in Oxford working for a senior physician with a special interest in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome who set up one of the first fatigue clinics in UK. I then picked up my interest again when I got referred to a number of patients with fatigue-related conditions as part of my private work as a general medical specialist.

I have taken guidance from Dr Ros Vallings who is a well-recognized authority in this area and constantly update myself with the literature in this area.

My interests include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Long-Covid, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and other fatigue-related conditions. My management is based on current evidence and international guidelines from NICE (UK) and CDC (US). I work closely with Chronic Complex Illness Support Team (www.ccisupport.org.nz) who provide education and support for people with fatigue-related conditions.

My specialist training in general medicine and nephrology helps me in looking at the patient as a whole, while dealing with complex multiple symptomatology. I also have a string research background having done a PhD in Health Sciences through University of Aberdeen (Scotland). This allows me to assess and take the best evidence from current literature to manage these conditions.

I hope to bring a holistic, well-rounded empathetic approach to help patients and their families who have to deal with this complex illness.
